Military Parachutes
|
Aerostar has
set new technological
standards in the parachute
manufacturing industry.
Our ISO 9001:2000
Certification assures
our parachutes are manufactured with the
highest possible Quality Standards.
Our Quality System assures you every step
of the
manufacturing process has our
parachutes delivered on time
and to spec. |

|
 |
Our parent company,
Raven
Industries, has
manufactured
parachutes from their beginning
in 1956 through 2004.
That tradition continues at Aerostar
after assuming management of
what is now known as the
Aerospace Group.
|
|
Many different styles and types
of military parachutes
have
been designed and manufactured
by Raven Industries and
Aerostar International in our
50 years of manufacturing.
The parachute shown at the
right is an ordnance chute
which
fulfilled two functions:
deceleration and arming.
|

|
|
 |
Some of our very earliest parachutes were
conceived, designed, copyrighted and
manufactured by Raven Industries.
The parachute shown to the left is the
R-PLUS® parachute, constructed
entirely of plastic, was designed
specifically for one-shot cargo delivery.
The manufacturing and raw material
costs were very inexpensive so a
single use was feasible. In the image
the parachute is carrying a
500 pound payload.
|
|
The Raven PLUS® parachute,
is a proprietary design and
was deployed successfully
at an altitude of 205,000 feet
after ejection from an ARCAS
meteorological rocket.
The metalized surface
provided a radar target
for radar tracking purposes.

Black Brandt sounding rockets
are used for Near Space projects
requiring a higher altitude
than a high
altitude research
balloon can achieve.
|
|
Raven Industries designed and
manufactured the very first Black
Brant Sounding Rocket Parachutes
in the 1950's and Aerostar International continues to
manufacture them today.
These parachutes safely guide the
sampling equipment through the upper atmosphere, allowing the scientists
to gather and retrieve vital
information otherwise unavailable.
|

|
|

|
Raven R-Plus designs were
also manufactured
for over 20 years for use in landing
decelerator parachutes for the Lear Jet
parachute program which ran
from 1968 to 1995.
In 1982, Goodyear Aerospace sub-
contracted
with Raven to
produce
the BALLUTE
munitions decelerator.
Deploying at speeds above the speed
of sound, the
BALLUTE experienced
tremendous
opening forces.
|
|
The BALLUTE was an
extremely difficult and demanding
parachute program.
The BALLUTE
manufacturing
line
ran for nearly a decade with impressive quality
