General Maintenance Information
Each Aerostar hot air balloon is a federally registered aircraft and is regulated by the
Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA). The regulations concerning the repair and
maintenance of a hot air balloon can
be found in
Part 43 of the Federal
Aviation Regulations (FARs).
In addition to the FARs, each Aerostar hot air balloon must be inspected and maintained in accordance with the Aerostar Continued Airworthiness Instructions
(ACAI) manual.
The ACAI manual contains the complete instructions for the performance of the required Annual and/or 100-hour inspections including
all
Service Letters and
Service Bulletins
issued by Aerostar International and the
Airworthiness Directives
issued by the FAA for Aerostar hot air balloons. Specific information
on required inspection requirements, life limited parts and damage limitation is found in the
Airworthiness Limitations section
of the
ACAI. We have separate pages where you
can download the
ACAI, Service Letters,
Service Bulletins and Airworthiness Directives.

There are several small maintenance items
balloon owners or operators can perform
as "Preventive Maintenance".
These items may include replacing batteries
in the instruments, cleaning and reconditioning
the gondola, burners, or envelope, and placing patches on the envelope to repair small holes.
Details on preventive maintenance can be found
in Part I section 2.0 of the ACAI. Other repairs
not considered preventive maintenance must be performed by an FAA authorized Repair Facility.
